Mayfair – Mr Fogg’s is not a real speakeasy but you can breathe a vintage atmosphere in this Victorian style cocktail bar full of flags, maps, old portraits and original objects.
The drink list is huge and really interesting, with unique combinations of ingredients. Many cocktails are served in luxury chinese cups that they use for the afternoon tea, too.
Yes, because Mr Fogg’s is not just a cocktail bar but also a place where you can have a nice afternoon tea the English way, with a wide selection of sandwiches, cakes and the famous scones with jam and clotted cream, that I literally adore!
They call it Tipsy Tea and it takes place just on Saturday and Sunday. The particularity of this afternoon tea is that it is alcoholic: actually, many London hotels and cafes serve normal tea and a glass of champagne, instead at Mr Fogg’s Residence the teapot consists in gin tea or champagne tea.
Pretty unusual for me to drink spirits during a Sunday afternoon… Nevertheless it was intriguing, a lovely experience, that has been gladden by live music entertainment of a fantastic pianist and singer.
I chose the Woburn Abbey : English Breakfast infused Hendrick’s gin, stepped in a teapot with creme de bergamot, fresh lemon juice and home-made sugar syrup. It was amazing!
All I can say is that the following Sunday I tried to replicate the same event at home, after buying a nice cake stand and chinese cups in Portobello Market and after trying to make a similar drink with tea infused gin… However, I assure you that it was definitely not the same!
